What's included

  • Tasks versus roles grid with R/A/C/I dropdowns
  • Legend and worked example
  • RACI matrix: Task / deliverable, Sponsor, Project manager, Business analyst, Tech lead, Designer, QA lead, Finance

How to use the RACI matrix template

  1. List tasks or deliverables down the left side.
  2. Rename the column headers to your roles (roles, not names, where possible).
  3. Pick one Accountable person per task, then mark who is Responsible, Consulted and Informed.
  4. Check each row has exactly one A and at least one R.
  5. Review the matrix with the team and share it with the communication plan.

Tips for getting the most from it

  • Too many C's slow decisions down.
  • A column with no R's may mean a role is not needed.
  • Revisit the matrix when the team changes.
  • Use it to settle ownership disputes early.
